The province of Alicante is Spain's most popular destination for property buyers. It is a part of the Autonomous Community of Valencia and a home to around 2 million people. During the high season this number increases several times due to the tourists. The Costa Blanca, which runs the length of Alicante province, is considered the warmest coast in the country (water temperatures can reach +29° C in August) and is known for its affordable prices of properties. The province of Alicante has many renowned towns: Alicante, the capital of the province of the same name; Benidorm, the "Spanish Las Vegas"; Elche, Torrevieja among others. Property prices in Alicante
Alicante is considered an affordable place in terms of real estate, the average price in February 2021 is €1614 per sq m. However, this price is higher than in the other two provinces of the region: Valencia (€1243) and Castellón (€1074). In Alicante you can find small apartments for €30,000-40,000 in close proximity to the beaches, but we recommend to examine such properties very carefully: problems with repairs or neighbours are highly likely, especially when it comes to the big city.
For €50,000 – €90,000 in the province of Alicante you may purchase secondary apartments within walking distance of the sea. From €100,000 – new apartments and townhouses in gated communities. For €270,000 you can afford a villa with a garden, swimming pool and a parking in the suburbs of Alicante.
Frequently Asked Questions
First, there is plenty of luxury real estate in the city of Alicante, especially in the Parque Avenidas and Vistahermosa areas (read our guide to Alicante neighbourhoods). If you drive to the west via the AP-7, you will reach Villajoyosa and Benidorm. The latter is extremely popular among British property buyers. Benidorm is also called the "Spanish Las Vegas" for its casinos and nightlife.
There are several suburbs around Alicante, where buyers are looking for privacy and peace, but also for cheaper options. For example, in Santa Pola (a few kilometres west of Alicante), you can buy apartments on the sea front for €70,000. In Santa Pola you won’t find any new buildings, so it is not suitable for permanent residence, but rather for holidays. In Gran Alacant and Arenales del Sol you will find a variety of new developments with townhouses, swimming pools and new apartments for sale within walking distance to the sea and amenities. The price for such options start from €100,000. The surrounding area of San Vicente del Raspeig, a student town with a campus around the University of Alicante, is also well suited to letting or buying student housing.
